Information

While sustainability language may divide, human health is a conversation that unites. The outcomes associated with green building strategies, such as improved indoor air quality, reduced exposure to extreme temperatures, increased access to green space, and walkable communities are already proven to deliver better health outcomes. Yet despite this evidence, the real estate development process continues to lead to increases in heat islands, food deserts, traffic-related air pollution, and inequitable access to resilient infrastructure. Where is the disconnect? This interactive session explores how sustainability efforts stall when health expertise is absent from decision-making and how integrating medical and public health voices can change outcomes. Featuring a pediatric health psychologist, public health leader, building policy advocate, and professional engineer focused on green financing, this panel connects health research directly to building design, policy, and cost considerations. This diverse group seeks to connect the data and evidence about how green buildings and infrastructure promote better health outcomes to pragmatic solutions and steps every audience member can take to make a difference where they work, live, and play. Attendees will help drive the interactive conversation with their input and leave with practical, cost-informed strategies aligned with LEED v5 health objectives (such as the new human impact assessment and climate resilience assessment prerequisites) and real-world development feasibility, equipping them to advocate effectively for healthier, safer, and more resilient communities, regardless of political or regulatory headwinds.
