Description:
Anyone can set a greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goal. But how do you actually go about reaching that goal across a building portfolio that fits within a capital budget? The answer to this question unlocks the path towards reducing the 40% of global emissions attributable to buildings. Through the lens of a real estate owner, a sustainability engineering consultant, a decarbonization planning software provider, and the USGBC, this session will offer an 8-step framework that answers: What are the key business risks driving real estate owners to decarbonize? How should you quantify baseline emissions and fill data gaps? How can you go about setting SMART carbon reduction targets? How do you actually create a decarbonization strategy? What is the best way to prioritize decarbonization measures? How do you fund and implement measures with various stakeholders? How can you monitor and verify progress towards your stated goals? The session will cover how the new language in LEED v5 O&M rewards teams for conducting decarbonization plans and offer participants guidance on how they can fulfill it for building owners. Finally, presenters will share USGBC tools and resources for monitoring and verification of portfolio environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.
